FAQ About Fireplace Embers

Q: How often should I replace fireplace embers?

A: We recommend replacing your fireplace embers every 12 to 24 months, depending on usage. Over time, embers may lose their ability to glow or break down from heat exposure. Refreshing your embers regularly keeps your fireplace looking vibrant and realistic.

Q: Can I use embers with fire glass?

A: Yes! Our decorative embers are designed to complement other fireplace media like fire glass, or ceramic products. Just be sure to follow your burner manufacturer's guidelines to maintain proper airflow and safe operation.

Q: Are embers safe for ventless gas fireplaces?

A: We do not recommend the use of embers in ventless gas fireplaces. Many of our embers are safe for ventless or vent-free fireplaces; however ember beds tend to attract dust and debris from the home environment. This is especially true in homes with pets. Since this debris is exposed to the gas flame, it can burn and create unpleasant odors in your home. Fire glass media is a better option for a ventless fireplace application. Fire glass can easily be removed and cleaned regularly this eliminating the possibility of unpleasant odors in your home. When considering any fireplace media in any vent-free application, always check your fireplace’s owner's manual. Some ventless models require specific ember materials to ensure proper air quality and performance. When in doubt, consult a certified gas technician.

Q: What's the difference between ceramic embers and rock wool embers?

A: Great question!

  • Ceramic embers are molded from heat-resistant ceramic material and provide a more solid, structured glowing effect.

  • Rock wool embers are made from fine mineral fibers and are ultra-lightweight, giving off a soft, flickering glow when exposed to flame.

Both add realism, and many fireplace owners use a combination of ember types for a layered, lifelike effect.

Q: Do embers affect the heat output of my fireplace?

A: Indirectly, yes. While embers themselves don’t produce heat, they help distribute warmth more evenly and enhance the look of the flame bed. A well-dressed burner pan with high-quality embers can make your gas fireplace feel cozier and more effective at heating a room.

Q: Can I install the embers myself?

A: In most cases, yes! Installing or replacing embers is a simple DIY project. Just turn off the gas, let everything cool, and gently place the embers around the burner or under the gas logs. Avoid blocking the burner ports. We also recommend checking your fireplace manual for any specific instructions.
