Types of Fire Glass

Crushed Fire Glass

As the name implies, this is tempered fire glass that has been crushed and then screened to specific sizes. Please note that this type of fire glass can go by a number of different names, but it’s all basically the same product. In some cases, this type of fire glass is called crushed tempered fire glass, and in other cases, you will hear it called reflective crushed fire glass, and in other crushed tempered reflective fire glass. This can be confusing and is somewhat of a misnomer. All fire glass is tempered. This is what allows the fire glass to withstand the high heat associated with a gas fireplace, gas fire table, or gas fire pit. This type of fire glass is also used as a media base in electric fireplaces.

As you can see below, the crushed tempered fire glass comes in many different colors and sizes, ranging from a quarter of an inch up to one inch, depending on the look you are trying to create. For an average size fireplace or fire pit, we suggest the .5 or .75 inch sizes, but the .25 inch crushed great as well. You can also mix or match any of these products to get the custom look you're looking for by mixing sizes and colors.

Molded Fire Glass

Here again, as the name implies, this is fire glass that has been molded into specific shapes. As with all tire glass, our molded fire glass is tempered to withstand the heat of a gas fireplace, gas fire table, or gas fire pit. The molded fire glass also works well as a base for any electric fireplace. Some of the shapes you can select from our diamond fire glass, which comes in Sapphire. Onix or Crystal or our Luxury Special Molded Fire Glass that comes in ice cube shapes or starfish. Like all the other fire glass products, our molded fire glass products are tempered to withstand the heat of a gas fire feature and can also be used in any electric fireplace. We see these used a lot in higher-end fireplaces, fire tables or fire pits. Our molded fire glass can also be mixed with any of the crushed fire glass products.

Iridescent Fireglass

Our iridescent fire glass is another product in our molded fire glass collection. However, in this case, the fire glass has been treated so that it gives a warm iridescent glow to your fire feature and subtle color changes as the flame reflects off the glass. This fire glass is currently available in the 1-inch size and in the rust iron or onyx black colors. Suggested for larger gas fireplaces, fire tables, or fire pits

Fire Beads

Another one of our molded fire glass products. Our .75-inch fire beads are available in black, urban rain crimson, and aspen. Our fire beads are tempered to withstand the heat of any gas fireplace, fire table, or fire pit. They also make a great media base for any electric fireplace. AQs with our other fire glass products; these can be mixed to create the perfect media base for your gas fire feature.

Mixed Fire Glasses

We also have three collections of curated mixed fire glass. Any of our fire glass can be mixed, but in these three collections, our factory experts have selected their favorite mixes of various fire glass products. These are available in a number of different color options and are great for those who have trouble visualizing what a mix of fire glasses would look like. Be sure to check all three products to see all the color options available.

One of the hottest trends in fireplace or fire pit design is the using fire glass as either a base material or as an accent when used over a fire stone base or in combination with our mixed media makeover kits.

Fire Glass: It’s Not Just for Outdoor Fire Pits Anymore

Thanks to its durability and easy-to-clean nature, as well as a wide array of colors, shapes, and sizes, fire glass has always been the go-to media for outdoor gas fire pits and fire tables. However, over the last few years, we have seen a growing number of both gas and electric fireplace manufacturers move from a traditional ember base to using fire glass as the base layer in their fireplaces. This is especially true for larger linear gas and electric fireplaces. With its array of colors, shapes, and sizes available, there is a fire glass product for almost any design aesthetic, and we are seeing an increasing number of customers replacing their traditional embers beds with fire glass.

Fire Glass in Mixed Media Kits

While fire glass looks great as a stand-alone product, it looks even better when combined with other Enhance a Fire media products. That includes our fire stones, twig sets, fiber balls, and beach-inspired mixes. We even have an entire collection of curated mixed fire glass that incorporates different colors, sizes, and shapes of fire glass. These kits are like a fireplace or fire pit makeover in a box
